Public universities charge a semester fee, not tuition. The cost of studying in Germany is genuinely low compared to the UK or US, but the blocked account requires a large sum upfront. 

The figures below are the latest officially published amounts; several (blocked account, health insurance, and DAAD stipend) are revised periodically, so confirm the current figure before you transfer funds for the 2027–28 cycle.

Part-Time Jobs in Germany for International Students During Summer Intake

Part-time work often affects whether Summer intake is financially feasible. Under the rule currently in force, non-EU students on a German student visa can work up to 140 full days or 280 half-days per year (raised from 120/240 in March 2024), roughly 20 hours per week during lecture time, with full-time work allowed during semester breaks.
