So, recently I came across this book called Nonviolent Communication. I am not able to recall the author's name. If last month I came across this book and I completed it within a week or so, that is the fastest I think I might have completed any book. As the book suggests, as the name suggests, the book is upon efficient communication, how one can be efficient and mindful about what he or she is communicating to others and how it is landing upon the other person. I really like the framework provided in this book. Many a times I come across this topic, but I am not satisfied with the tools which are suggested. But in contradiction to other book, this book gave me a very concrete framework on what things, which four things I need to take care while communicating, while communicating a request, feedback or maybe some conflict which will help me to resolve it without being a contentious issue.

Follow up questions

What specific techniques from the book did you find most helpful?
The book emphasizes four key components: observation, feelings, needs, and requests. I found that by clearly stating my observations without judgment, expressing my feelings honestly, identifying my needs, and making specific requests, I could communicate more effectively and reduce misunderstandings.

How has reading this book changed your communication style?
Since reading the book, I've become more mindful of my words and how they might be perceived. I now focus on expressing my feelings and needs more clearly, which has led to more constructive conversations and fewer conflicts in both personal and professional settings.

Would you recommend this book to others? Why or why not?
Absolutely! I believe this book is beneficial for anyone looking to improve their communication skills. The practical framework it provides is easy to understand and apply, making it a valuable resource for resolving conflicts and enhancing relationships.

So, the book that I read and found quite useful was recently, it is a really famous book. It is the Bhagavad Gita, the sacred book for Hindus. I am a kind of a person who would never read a book as I am more into seeing podcasts. But there was a time when I felt really low and I thought I didn't have a purpose in life. That's when someone recommended to me to try reading. Initially I thought that it was really stupid advice but once I started reading the book, I got to understand the realities of life. The book is really, I was really intrigued by the book in the sense that if I open a random page from the book, I knew that I am going to get the answer that I am looking for. It was not like that I have to read the book chapter by chapter or sentence by sentence. I feel it's really extraordinary but in a good way, unusual book as I got the answers to my life and it really helped me to feel a lot more better about myself and look forward to the life in more positive way. I thank the person who advised me to read a book and that's when I felt that reading a book isn't really a boring thing to do if you get the right book.

Follow up questions

What specific lessons did you learn from the Bhagavad Gita?
The Bhagavad Gita teaches various lessons about duty, righteousness, and the importance of self-realization. I learned that it's essential to understand my responsibilities and act according to my values, which helped me find clarity and purpose in my life.

How has reading this book changed your perspective on life?
Reading the Bhagavad Gita shifted my perspective significantly. I began to see challenges as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles. It encouraged me to embrace a more positive outlook and to seek meaning in my experiences, which has been transformative.

Do you think reading can be beneficial for everyone? Why or why not?
Yes, I believe reading can be beneficial for everyone. It opens up new perspectives, enhances understanding, and can provide comfort and guidance in difficult times. However, the key is to find the right book that resonates with the individual, as I experienced with the Bhagavad Gita.

So, a few months ago I picked up a book from the Oxford Bookstore in Kennaught Place. It was The Grand Design, written by Stephen Hawking. Stephen Hawking is a well-known cosmologist and astrophysicist. I've always admired him because of his skills in science and also because he had a lot of problems. Even though he faced cerebral disability and his whole body was paralysed, still he was one of the greatest minds known by my generation. So when I picked up his book and I read his name on the cover, I was immediately interested and I wanted to learn more about him and the subject that he studied. So before that, I had only seen him in TV shows like Big Bang Theory and I had seen his biography, a film called The Theory of Everything, but in that moment I just felt like this could be something that could get me more into the subject of science, which is something that I've always been interested in. I studied science in high school and I was just immediately interested. So I bought that book and that book just changed a lot of the perspectives that I had had on the formation of the universe. It had small details about the black holes, the planets, the Milky Way galaxy and the universe beyond it as well. So from our eyes, it may seem small, but it has just such a big space and I've just, I've still been reading that book.

Follow up questions

What specific concepts from the book did you find most intriguing?
I found the concepts of black holes and the nature of time particularly intriguing. Hawking's explanations made complex ideas accessible, and I was fascinated by how he described the universe's expansion and the possibility of multiple dimensions.

How has reading this book influenced your view on science?
Reading The Grand Design deepened my appreciation for science and its complexities. It encouraged me to think critically about the universe and inspired me to explore more scientific literature, which has broadened my understanding of various scientific principles.

Would you recommend this book to others? Why or why not?
Absolutely! I would recommend it because it's not only informative but also written in a way that is engaging for readers who may not have a strong science background. Hawking's ability to convey complex ideas simply makes it a valuable read for anyone curious about the universe.

Last year, I remember reading the book called Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. This book is written based on the letters which Marcus Aurelius had written to his friends and I would say people who were close to him. He recommended or suggested them to follow paths in life or rather lessons for life which is useful for everybody. This was very important to me as it was recommended to me by one of my office colleagues at a point in my life where I was low and I needed some motivation to go forward or to seek out my goals. I needed that. When I started reading the book, I felt it suggested some great life lessons but more important part was the practical application of these lessons in our day-to-day lives. I finished the book in almost a week and I felt actually great by incorporating those life lessons in my daily day-to-day activities. For example, to calculate the amount of words which I speak on a daily basis and how I respond towards other people's emotions. For example, if a person is angry, how I respond to it, I started controlling these factors. I also recommend this book for other people as it would be a great turning point in their lives after reading this book.

Follow up questions

What specific life lessons from the book did you find most impactful?
One of the most impactful lessons was the importance of self-control and mindfulness. It taught me to pause and reflect before reacting to situations, especially when dealing with others' emotions. This has helped me maintain a calm demeanor and respond more thoughtfully.

How do you think reading this book has changed your perspective on life?
Reading 'Meditations' has significantly shifted my perspective. I now approach challenges with a more stoic mindset, focusing on what I can control and accepting what I cannot. This has reduced my stress and helped me stay motivated in pursuing my goals.

Would you recommend any other books that have similarly influenced you?
Yes, I would recommend 'The Power of Now' by Eckhart Tolle. It emphasizes living in the present moment and has also provided me with practical strategies to reduce anxiety and enhance my overall well-being, similar to the lessons in 'Meditations'.

The book I read which I found really useful was one named Deep Work by Carl Newport. It is a really good book which was recommended to me by a friend and also I saw many online influencers recommending it. I read it during the lockdown probably around Jan Feb 2021. When I first started reading it, it was a little boring, but then after a few pages, it got really interesting. The book basically teaches you how to work efficiently instead of working for long hours. It suggests that we can only work for around 3-4 hours effectively and those 3-4 hours we should give it a roll and it shares some tips and tricks for us to follow using which we can do what we do more efficiently. It helped me in many ways, especially in studies. It made my studies more efficient in many ways. I also recommended it to many friends and they also liked the book very much. I think the book is really underrated. I think more people should read the book. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone. Doesn't matter if the person is in school or is in college. It just makes your life easier and more happier because you invest a very little time but you can do a lot of work and enjoy the rest of the day.

Follow up questions

One of the most helpful tips was the concept of time blocking. It encourages setting aside specific blocks of time for focused work without distractions. This method helped me prioritize tasks and manage my time better, leading to increased productivity.

After reading 'Deep Work', I started to implement shorter, more focused study sessions instead of long hours of cramming. I found that I retained information better and felt less overwhelmed, which made studying more enjoyable and effective.

It Ends With Us is a book I read recently. It's by the author Colleen Hoare. It's mainly a story about two teenagers, Atlas and Lily, and how they just handle their life going through high school, adolescence, and just domestic violence at home. Both of them come from very, very different families. However, they have one common determining factor between them, which is domestic violence. The abuse that they've seen their moms go through is just insane, and they connect through that on a different level. They're actually in the same high school, but they never speak to each other until Atlas actually crashes into an empty house next to Lily's villa. When Atlas is homeless and he doesn't have anywhere to go, he just comes and breaks into the house next to Lily's, and Lily helps him with all the daily necessities like clothes and food, medicines and stuff. Furthermore, their friendship blossoms into love, but it doesn't really fructify as Atlas has to leave. This book really gave me a lot of knowledge about domestic abuse and how to deal with it.

A book I've found genuinely useful is Atomic Habits by James Clear. I read it at a time when I felt more comfortable. I read it at a time when I felt motivated but inconsistent. Big goals excited me, yet my follow-through was shaky. This book didn't preach ambition. It focused on something far more practical, which is small habits done every day. What makes it powerful is the idea that tiny changes compound over time. The author explains that habits are not about willpower, they're about systems. He breaks behavior into simple steps, cue carving, response, reward and shows. How to redesign your environment so good, habits become effortless and bad ones uncomfortable. It felt realistic, not idealistic. One concept that stayed with me is identity-based habits. Instead of saying, I want to study more, you start thinking, I'm a disciplined learner. That shift sounds small, but it changes how you act daily. I used the techniques to improve my study routine and time management. I stopped aiming for perfection and focused on showing up consistently even on low-energy days. That alone reduced stress. Overall, this book is useful because it respects human nature. It doesn't ask you to change overnight. It teaches you how to grow quietly, patiently and sustainably. It's the kind of book that stays with you long after you finish reading it.

I would like to talk about a book called Pir-e-Kamil which is written by Umair Ahmed. I read this book a few years ago and it is turned out to be one of the most meaningful books I have ever read. I found this book extremely useful because it encouraged me to think beyond material success and focus more on values, discipline and personal growth. The story mainly revolves around two central characters Salar Sikandar and Imamah Hashim. What makes the book truly special is that it doesn't just tell a story, it explores deep themes such as faith, moral choices, self-reflection and the purpose of life. The character of Salar in particular was very impactful as he represents intelligence without direction, and his journey highlights how knowledge alone isn't enough without wisdom and ethics. Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thoughtful literature. It not only improves reading habits but also leaves you with a new perspective on life which is why it's a book I genuinely found useful and unforgettable.

A book that has been detrimental and useful in my life is Throne of Glass written by Sarah J Maas. She is also my favorite author. Every book she has written has impacted me profoundly, so has this book. Throne of Glass follows the story of a young female protagonist who despite all odds against her manages to survive in critical conditions and achieve happiness. It has taught me about resilience and the determination at the same time to never settle for less. Additionally, the book touches themes of sexual assault which has really profoundly impacted me and inspired me to learn self-defense. I read it two years ago when I was a junior in high school and it has stayed in my mind ever since. I would recommend it to anybody who has an interest in fantasy thriller books that focus on a strong female hero. All her books follow similar themes although this one has something so special about it that I just cannot explain in words.

Well, I am an avid reader, who always prefer to read different kinds of books. Whenever I get free time, I read many types of books, such as novels, dramas, storybooks and so on. However, today I would like to talk about a specific book that I have recently read. One of the most interesting book, the name of the book is Atomic Habit by James Clear. It's a non-fiction book that focuses on the science of habit, formation and how tiny changes can lead to remarkable results over time. I read this book about 2 months ago during my semester break. I had been hearing a lot of positive reviews about it from friends online, so I decided to give it a try. I am really glad I did because it offered practical advice that I could apply immediately in my daily life. The book explained how habits are formed and how we can break bad habits, while building good ones. One of the key ideas that stayed with me is the concept of getting 1% better every day. The author emphasized the importance of consistency over intensity, which made me rethink how I approach my goals. What I love most about the book is that it is based on real research, but written in a very simple and engaging way. There are lots of examples and stories that inspired and motivated me to make meaningful changes in my life and routine. Overall, I think Atomic Habits is a book that I found good to use and everyone should read at least once. It's practical, insightful and genuinely helpful, especially for people who want to improve their productivity.

Recently I came across a book called Dopamine Detox. This book was a self-help book for removing distraction from our life. I chose to read this book during the time I was very distracted by things like social media or entertainment like movies, anime series. This book basically explains how our body releases dopamine whenever we are doing pleasurable activities like scrolling on the phone, watching TV or eating junk food. The author suggests the method of Dopamine Detox which means trying to take a break from all the necessary distraction for a few hours or entire day and instead he encourages to do the activities which are prone to very less dopamine like reading, planning something out or walking. I find this book very helpful because it helped me to control my unhealthy habits and at the same time this book is like very small, it can be finished within few hours.

I like to think of myself as a voracious reader. I read books ranging from history, politics to science and economics. But I think the genre which hits a string in the heart would be spirituality. India, as you may know, is the birthplace of three of the five major religions of the world. And as a result of that, we've got many great saints and seekers. So the spiritual wisdom that these books contain, that the books of these people contain, offer insights which are very hard to come across in daily life. One such book which I read recently, perhaps the last month or so, is the book of Yoga by Swami Vivekananda. And as you might know, Swami Vivekananda was a great teacher and a very respected figure of his time. What I really liked about the book was that he mentioned the greatness of work and how that by working alone one could attain the divine.

As it says that step by step and take baby steps when you want to leave a bad habit. I feel that it is very useful if someone wants to notice a drastic change in their day to day life.
